The Penticton Peach Festival is taking over Gyro Park in the mornings with the Home Hardware Kids Zone.

"The first-ever Kids Zone was held last year and it was a huge success," said Director Bev Tiel. "Thanks to Home Hardware and our other sponsors, we are able to have a party for the kids every morning before the main gates open to Okanagan Lake Park."

Back by popular demand is Kiki the Eco Elf, also known as Tanya Lipscomb.

"Kiki was the crowd favourite last year," said Tiel.

There will also be bouncy castles, a crafts and bubble tent, balloon animals, live goats, pony rides (for $5) and a reptile petting zoo. The Penticton Library will also have a table set up for drop-in crafts, story time and a puppet show.

Peachfest President Don Kendall said the Kids Zone fits in perfectly with the festival's slogan of free, family fun.

"The entire focus is on the kids. It is a great way for families to kick off their day before the main park opens at noon," he said.

Also performing in the Kids Zone are Mat Duffus, the Black Widow Rope Spinners, Kennedy Smith and Boundless Belly Dance.

The Home Hardware Kids Zone is scheduled to be open from 9 a.m. to noon, from Aug. 8 to 10. There will be free entertainment, attractions and activities for youngsters. For more on the Home Hardware Kids Zone click here.
