It's a fun tournament for a good cause.
The Sheila Bishop Memorial Wood Bat Slopitch Tournament takes place Aug. 11 and 12 at Lions Park.
"We're proud that we have donated more than $60,000 over the past 14 years to charity," said Director Paul Borba. "The umpires donate their time to officiate so we can donate every penny that comes in."
The tourney is held annually in honour of Sheila Bishop, an avid slo-pitch and volleyball player, who lost her courageous battle with ovarian cancer on June 6, 2003.
In 2017, the Sheila Bishop Memorial Wood Bat Tournament co-organizers Vikki and Don Gowan, along with Borba, presented the donation of $2,700 raised at the tournament to Jodie Lemke for her son Lucas who is battling Cystic Fibrosis.
The tournament also donated $2,700 to Bonnie Reilly's son, Tyson. Bonnie is currently battling cancer.
In addition to the 2018 tournament, there will be a home run hitting contest, silent auction and beverage garden.
